David Cranston is the Florida Clean Energy Manager for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), where he works to advance economically sensible and environmentally sustainable energy policies in the Sunshine State. His work focuses on cost-saving measures including investment in demand-side energy efficiency, diversification of energy resources in the electric power sector, harnessing Florida's abundant solar energy, and improving grid resilience and security through both transmission and distribution system reforms. He previously worked for Austin Energy, the electric utility that serves Austin, Texas. There he managed the inspection program for customer-sited solar and battery storage, led efforts to reform the distributed energy resource (DER) permitting and interconnection process, and helped administer the utility's solar incentive programs for residential and commercial customers. Throughout his career he has emphasized the importance of consumer education along with accountability for regulators and industry participants. He holds a Master's in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
